The specific formulas behind the weapons is something the admins have directly stated they will not release. However, as E pointed out, Kanine has stated that the relative power of a weapon is reflected in it's shop price.
Melee weapons break but I do not believe them to be weaker. They tend to cost less than guns so they are often weaker on given level due to cost differences.

i recently bought a hunga munga and it's damage was worse than the gun i also had that costed alot less

38 special = 50m base cost
hunga = 40m base cost
If cost was the only thing that affected the power of a weapon (which is likely not the case) the hunga munga would be expected to do 20% less damage.again there are other factors we can't account for since the code is not available to us.

i would definitely think certain stats play a role in damage with melee vs firearm because my luger did nearly the same damage as my hunga munga

The best weapon in the game is not one you can buy. As far as causing damage I've done plenty with the provided weapons but my words have left much longer lasting marks on my victims >:)
